Food Security and Improving Livelihood
Five small-scale irrigation sites were developed; in the livestock sector, improving animal husbandry, establishing veterinary clinics, training animal health workers, construction of livestock markets, and introducing camels were conducted; modern fishery and beekeeping practices have been introduced as income generating enterprises; and pastoralist cooperatives unions were also formed to improve and utilize local business opportunities.
Capacity Building
The capacity strengthening efforts of EPaRDA include three major components, namely, a community-based capacity building program (which includes infrastructure development such as ponds and wells, grain mills, non-formal schools, toilets, birthing huts, subsurface dams, earth dams, and market places), capacity building for government offices (which includes training, material, and financial support), and enhancing EPaRDA’s field office capabilities for effective delivery of community services.
